After School Programs

Our afternoon classes cover many levels, starting with our "Mom and Baby” class for 1 year olds and infant beginner classes, up to internationally experienced local students and returnees. Our full-day Saturday program even attracts families from outside the city.

Classes

Through our network and 30 years of experience, at Beanstalk we provide programs that are beneficial to the future in keeping up with the English education reforms and career shifts of the times, and prepare real English proficiency that can be utilized abroad.

STEAM Class

STEM classes are becoming more popular in Japanese elementary schools. Students learn programming, science, technology, engineering and mathematics in one class. We now offer STEAM after school classes to help develop the skills necessary for the next generation. STEAM incorporates the core elements of science, technology, engineering and mathematics but also adds art which is necessary for creativity and expressing oneself freely.

STEAM Goals

To generate ideas, expressiveness, logical thinking, communication and practical skills.

Each STEAM class is taught by teachers with specialized skills and industry experience.

STEAM classes are more active than other classes. We recommend this course to develop the ability to express yourself freely in English and to develop new skill sets for the next generation.

Please not that in these lessons we may use digital devices for research and programming. Students can bring their own laptop or the school can provide one if needed.

Mom and Baby Mom and Baby

Mom and Baby

An introductory class for a child with one of their parents is lead by a teacher in charge of the preschool 2-3 year old class. This provides a good chance for mothers to remember Zoo-Phonics® and feel more confident in their pronunciation, which can be helpful later in their child’s education. In order to practice fine motor skills, we have fun making crafts together for the first time.

Pre-KindergartenPre-Kindergarten

Pre-Kindergarten

This class introduces separation from the parents after Mom and Baby class before students proceed to Japanese preschool. No matter how comfortable a child is with the teachers and the environment, there will always be some visible stress when separating from mom for the first time. In order to minimize this stress and enjoy a fun class, the teachers endeavor to provide the most friendly care. Once the students become accustomed to this separation, our fun 45 minute class will pass quickly. With ZooPhonics, songs, dance, and crafts, students get used to an all English environment with foreign teachers.

KindergartenKindergarten

Kindergarten

For the young children’s afternoon classes, there are two patterns to choose from: a 90- minute or 120-minute class. Classes range from K1 beginners to K4 level, and are separated by the childrens’ experience and proficiency. All the levels have the same goal of “No Japanese, all English”, which encourages even beginner students to become accustomed to the idea of an English only environment. All of the levels provide time for reading and writing utilizing the Zoo Phonics® system, and teach a balanced range of skills.

ElementaryElementary

Elementary

For elementary students who can already write, we use writing in our instruction from the beginning. As Zoo-Phonics has achieved good results in elementary schools and kindergartens throughout America, we can also see tremendous effects when utilized for our elementary students. The roman alphabet has become essential in Japan now, and it is beneficial to master phonics first. Communication skills are an essential part of English conversation, and we create an environment where there is no feeling of hesitation or shyness to speak freely in English.

Advanced English ClassAdvanced English Class

Advanced English Class

This is a weekday class for students with an established high level, such as students from international schools and returnees. This provides a good opportunity for elementary students to acquire skills that they will need in the future, such as journal and essay writing, as well as presentation skills. Although we recommend attending more than once a week, for returnees worried about their Japanese it is possible to attend once or in combination with Saturday class.

Saturday ClassSaturday Class

Saturday Class

Our five hour Saturday class is created to feel like a usual day of kindergarten or elementary school. While studying level-based English, students will also benefit from naturally learning phrases through daily life tasks, which is a more natural and native way to learn. With six levels simultaneously progressing throughout the day, our Saturday Class is popular for siblings and students who live too far to come for an afternoon class during the week.
